Applications are now open for the 2022/2023 Family Diagram App Seminar. Applications will be accepted until the seminar is full. Information about format, schedule, and how to apply can be found on the App Seminar page. The schedule for this academic year will be presented to applicants by September 15. There is some opportunity to adjust the schedule to balance the needs of all participants.
The Family Diagram app seminar is an opportunity for advanced students of Bowen theory to engage the Family Diagram app in the application of theory. Participants learn through presenting their own efforts to the author of the app and to other participants, along with facilitated discussions about theory and its application in research and practice.
Changes to the seminar this year include:
- Folks applying Bowen Theory in professional practice may now apply to the app seminar.
- Anyone without formal training in Bowen Theory but with a research project aimed at peer-reviewed publication in a scientific periodical may now apply to the seminar.
Regardless of how someone meets the prerequisites for application, the requirement of using the app to form falsifiable hypotheses remains in place. More information on how this applies to the different ways to meet the prerequisites can be found on the App Seminar Page.
This will be the second official year of the app seminar. A pilot seminar was conducted during the 2020/2021 academic year with a smaller invitation-only group. The pilot clarified an ideal function of the seminar so as to open it to a wider range of applicants. It was discovered that the app provides a unique opportunity to challenge what one believes one knows about self and emotional systems, and the seminar provided an opportunity to learn, discuss, and contribute to the future of Bowen Theory through scientific research and professional practice.
